Motorbike Driver’s Manual

For those who want to have long and fruitful pain free life as a motorcycle rider, may I suggest that they go over this manual.

I may be stepping on other peoples toes or turf, but may I post this motorbikes riding manual. It may help some of motorbike riders be more careful. As we road bikers also do. I hope we find this useful

Motorcycle Safety

I have avoided crossing swords with motorcyclists. With due respect to most of them, may I post this so that some will be enlightened on safety and how to live longer. And also extend the life and limb of other riders and pedestrians. God bless us all.

A bike ride should be pleasant and uneventful. This is only possible if we put safety at the top of our heads and helmet. Be careful always as we ride.

Safe Riding – Anyone?

Marcos Highway looks like a dangerous place to bike.  Motorbikes are more numerous here and travel faster. Right in front of the place where we had breakfast somebody rode at more than say 100 km and willied.  He could have had a head on collision with an incoming jeepney.  He avoided just in time.  And some 300  meters away, a motorbike rammed into a stationary jeepney.

We had always wished that our faster kin take safe driving seriously.  A weekend should be a time for a pleasant ride.  Not for an accident or tragedy.

But we see them:  riding very fast, overtaking from the wrong side or too close, not wearing helmets, eating our lanes. etc. Unsafe….

This is the Motorbike that Rammed the Jeep; Look at the Wires that Hold the Fender

There is a Big Tarp that Preaches Safety from MDPPA, but who cares and listens?

I do not know who will spread the gospel of safety among our brods who ride motor bikes?  Those who died early?

Safe Riding

Safety first always.  Sometimes we forgo them and meet accidents. Some tips:

l.  Check bike always before leaving:  the QR, the tires, the cables, the headsets, the tightness of handlebars, and seat bolts.  When anyone is loose, you are in big trouble.

2.  Be sure you are alert and fit when you ride.  When you are sleepy from last night’s excess, have not slept well, running a fever, rest; don’t ride.

3.  Wear protective gear:  helmet, sports glasses, helmet, and gloves with thick palm padding.  To protect yourself from suns rays, wear tinted eyeglasses, wear arm warmers for your exposed arms, and rub some sun tan lotion.

4.  Wear jersey that are brightly colored so that you are visible to motorists and fellow bikers alike.

5.  Be sure you are seen and heard by motorists or those on the road as you ride.  Shout:  bike bike to call attention of pedestrians and other motorists.

6.Avoid quarrelling or answering motorbikers and/or motor vehicle drivers.  You will get into more trouble.

7.  Ride only at speeds that you can safely manage:  stop and maneuver without crashing.

8,  Learn safe turning and counter steering as you manage downhill rides.

9.  Learn how to be comfortable in group rides with you shoulder to shoulder with other riders, and even touch wheels.

10.  Practice safe hard braking using both front and rear brakes.  More brake action is needed in front to avoid sliding the rear wheels.

ll.  Practice how to safely fall, in a roll.

l2.  Be alert always.

13.  More ‘” ingat” when it rains especially when passing over steel manholes and road paint:  they are very slippery.

14.  Invest in high quality helmet; wear helmet every time you ride

l5.  Always ride with a group so that somebody can assist you, just in case.  Bring always your cp;  however, dont text while you ride….
